IRL - Film - 8’45

IRL (“in real life”) is an acronym from internet culture used to clarify that what we are talking about, what is going to happen, will take place in the real world. One might ask how pictorial and, subsequently, digital techniques have involved a dual process of connecting with and disconnecting from reality, and what remains and re-emerges from the visible in this representation.

Here, the viewer’s credulity is challenged by the stretching of time and the strange repetition of motifs. Yet this mundane scene also lends itself to a form of hallucinatory immersion: a plunge into the mysteries of the visible to finally perceive what usually eludes us – much like when contemplating a seascape by Claude Lorrain.
